Role Description
The Purchasing Manager is responsible for the strategic and operational management of procurement activities supporting shipbuilding, ship repair, and refit projects. The role ensures the timely acquisition of materials, equipment, and services while meeting technical requirements, project schedules, budget targets, and company quality standards. Working closely with Project Managers, Production, Engineering, and Finance teams, the Purchasing Manager plays a key role in achieving the commercial and operational objectives of the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement procurement strategies aligned with company objectives.
- Manage the full purchasing cycle from requisition to purchase order issuance.
- Negotiate pricing, commercial terms, payment conditions, and supplier agreements.
- Identify, evaluate, and develop new suppliers and strategic partners.
- Monitor supplier performance regarding quality, delivery, cost, and reliability.
- Collaborate with Project Managers to ensure timely procurement for ongoing projects.
- Analyze purchasing costs, budgets, and cost-saving opportunities.
- Manage sourcing activities for materials, spare parts, equipment, and technical services.
- Ensure purchased goods and services comply with technical specifications and project requirements.
- Lead and develop the procurement team.
- Prepare periodic reports on procurement KPIs, supplier performance, and cost control.
- Ensure compliance with company procedures and applicable regulations.
Requirements
- Degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
- Proven experience as a Purchasing Manager, Procurement Manager, or similar role.
- Previous experience in the marine, shipyard, industrial, oil & gas, offshore, or construction sectors is highly desirable.
- Strong negotiation and supplier management skills.
- Ability to review and understand technical documentation and specifications.
- Experience in budget management and cost analysis.
- Fluent English language skills.
- Proficiency with ERP systems and procurement software.
- Strong leadership, analytical, and organizational abilities.
