Tumas Group is currently seeking to appoint a full-time Health and Safety Officer to oversee health and safety matters across its subsidiary companies involved in Portomaso maintenance and construction activities. Reporting into the Director, the selected candidate will promote a culture of health and safety, ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, conduct inspections of work sites and provide recommendations to drive improvements.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Promote health and safety principles.
- Conduct risk assessments and inspections of work processes, work sites and facilities in line with health and safety regulations.
- Develop and implement risk management strategies to proactively address identified health and safety concerns.
- Perform project site inspection and submit the relevant reports to management.
- Monitor compliance with OHS legislation and liaise with the necessary individuals to enforce corrective action when required.
- Formulate a plan of action to correct non complaint behaviour or conditions.
- Liaise with onsite contractors and external consultants to ensure compliance with safety regulations and adherence to safety standards.
- Prepare reports on visits, inspections, accidents and occupational health and safety concerns.
- Register workplace incidents and prepare legal or internal reports accordingly.
- Prepare technical reports and documentation as required by management or legal authorities.
- Develop and maintain emergency/ contingency plans (e.g. for fire, natural disasters etc.).
- Review and update emergency procedures as and when necessary.
- Coordinate evacuation drills.
- Advise management on enhancements to health and safety operations and systems.
- Design and deliver safety training programmes and induction sessions tailored to employees at all levels to promote awareness of health and safety requirements.
- Develop and update safety guidance materials and awareness content in line with company policy and legal requirements.
- Stay updated on occupational health and safety legislation, updates and industry trends.
Qualifications, experience and skills:
- A Diploma or Degree in Occupational health and safety from a recognized institution.
- A minimum of 2 years proven work experience in a health and safety role.
- Good knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal and confident in communicating at all levels within the company.
- Conversant in Microsoft Office applications.
- Skilled in maintaining accurate records.
- Highly organised and strong observation skills.
The selected candidate must either be registered and approved by the Occupational Health and Safety Authority (OHSA) as a Competent Person or must be eligible and obtain OHSA approval immediately upon engagement.
